Instagram is great for visibility, energy, and personality.
It is not great at being your main business system.
The biggest issue: clarity
When someone lands on your Instagram profile, they have to work quite hard to understand the whole picture.
They might need to jump between:
- your bio
- a pinned post
- story highlights
- old reels
- a link-in-bio page
That creates friction. A website can say the same thing more clearly in one structured flow.
The second issue: control
Instagram belongs to Instagram.
You can design your content, but you do not control the interface, layout, search behavior, or long-term visibility of your posts. A website gives you much more control over message, hierarchy, and conversion path.
The third issue: search
People do not only discover businesses through social feeds. They also search things like:
- best website designer for small business
- does my business need a website
- branding studio for startups
Those are website-style questions. If you have useful pages and articles, you have a better chance of showing up when intent is already high.
The best setup
For many brands, the strongest setup is simple:
- social media to attract attention
- website to turn that attention into understanding and action
That is usually much stronger than trying to force one platform to do both jobs.
